What I am fighting for.

Growing up in Chicago I attended an elementary school and high school that drew students from across all of Chicago.  I attended schools with students from every ethnic, racial, and economic background, helping to shape the person I am today.  Having an appreciation for those that do not look like you, and yet are no different, is the essence of humanity.

When I was in school I never had to go through an active shooter drill, and yet my children have been through those drills and will continue to do them every year until they graduate from school.  This made me realize that if I could do something to make this world a better place for my children, and all children, then I needed to do something.  I was therefore compelled to step up for my community and represent The 29th.

As I consider what the job of a Congressman is, the idea that continually comes back to the front is that of working with everyone in the House and those in the Senate to pass laws that are beneficial to all Americans.  For far too long this country has been a very safe and profitable place for only certain people to live in, while neglecting the rest.  I plan to seek out those from all parties to enact legislation.  The more Congress works together, the more that we can accomplish for the betterment of all Americans.  I feel that my platform lays out those items that will have my attention as I look to serve my District with legislation that will bring about positive change in every one’s lives.  I have hope that these items on my platform can be addressed.  However, I feel that the best way to see that the 29th District is taken care of properly is to go and do the work which will benefit everyone in our community, Los Angeles, California and the United States of America.

1 - CLIMATE CHANGE

If we do not take steps to begin to make changes to the way we live, the rest of the issues I raise do not matter.  These changes should benefit all humans and create an industry of jobs across America.  As we move away from fossil fuels, we do need to replace these communities of jobs that Americans rely on to survive with the green industry.  Going green should help all Americans, live a longer, happier, healthier lives.

2 - HOUSING

We must find the way to provide housing for everyone in America and focus on providing a bed and a roof for all.  The natural next step is to receive services that can assist you in getting back to a productive member of society.  We cannot allow children, our veterans or any person to have to live on the street.  Housing can be provided by way of its own bill along with the bill on Climate Change and a necessary portion of Economic Development in any community.

3 - HEALTHCARE

When you think about those things that we need to care for, that would be physical care, mental care, dental care, vision care & long-term care.  We must take care of all these things so that our children grow up living healthy, happy lives.  And since we are all God’s children, we need to ensure that everyone has the correct and adequate care that is needed for their entire lives.  Prescription drug costs must come down as no one should be making life decisions due to the price gouging.  We need to work toward living healthy lives instead of just trying to stay alive.  A healthy diet and exercise are a big part of living your best life.

4 - TUITION FREE SCHOOL, TEACHER PAY & STUDENT DEBT

Investing in our children is the key to helping everyone succeed in society.  By offering tuition free school through college, increasing teacher and administrative pay & forgiving all current student loan debt, we would immediately be investing in the future of ourselves and this country.  We need to increase the amount spent per student for special needs services to the mandated 40% and allocate to the districts based on the number requiring services. The impact of these investments would be felt throughout every community for generations.

5 - GUN SAFETY

Universal background checks are the way to begin to have a safer America for all.  I do not see why anyone would need a weapon of high caliber and high capacity for hunting or defending themselves.  These weapons have been repeatedly used in mass shootings throughout our country, particularly schools.  I am fighting to make my children and all children safer.  This is why I am here.

6 - STEAM

We must improve and add to the curriculum of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) - improve the Science curriculum, promote Technology, Engineering, and the Arts (Art, Music, Theatre, Dance, Film, TV, Photography, Design, and Social Media) & clarify the Mathematics curriculum.

7 - GENDER EQUALITY LGBTQIA

We must have gender equality with equal pay for all including supporting the LGBTQIA community as this country and its systems must work for everyone.  We the People.  There should be no laws that tell someone what they can and can’t do with their own body.

8 - SAFE VACCINES

Please let me be clear to everyone I am NOT Anti-Vaccination.  I am not against vaccines.  What I am against are unsafe vaccines.  Vaccines that are not vegan, human free or those that do harm should not be made mandatory until it can be proven that the vaccines are safe for all.

9 - CUT WAR FUND VETS

We must cut the bloated defense fund & fully fund the VA by ending wars we should not be a part of or do not see a democratic or diplomatic way out.

10 - ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, JOBS, UNIONS, WAGES

We need to use Economic Development to bring farms, plants, offices, businesses and affordable housing needed to all underserved communities.  This must bring $15 minimum wage jobs and trade unions, increasing wages in the community and strengthening the labor standards along with mandating paid family and sick leave.  Affordable housing must serve those individuals already living in those communities first so these generational families can continue to live in the communities they love and open their arms to new families.

11 - IMMIGRATION REFORM

We must put forth legislation to declare DACA The Dreamers, a path to citzenship immediately. We must make a way for people to come to our country legally as well and have a path for those already in the country, regardless of citizenship status.

12 - PRISON SYSTEM

We must evolve the prison system so that it becomes reform based and no longer privatized.

13 - JUSTICE SYSTEM

The Justice systems need to be reformed at the Juvenile, State, Federal, Civil & Corporate level.  The current system puts non-white people at a disadvantage.

14 - THC & CBD

We must decriminalize THC & CBD fully to allow for testing for medicinal purposes, allow for safe banking and allow for testing other psychedelic drugs for medicinal purposes.  All of this is an effort to release nonserious offenders from prison and to get them housed and working to help society.

15 - ANTI-CORRUPTION IN BUSINESS, ELECTIONS & GOVERNMENT

I do understand and can agree with the thought process of less is more.  Especially when looking at our Government and how it is run.  I do feel that removing unnecessary regulations that impede progress are a good thing.  However, there must also be agencies that stand up for Americans to Businesses to eradicate corruption.  Elections must be on paper ballot, on a national holiday, eventually replacing the electoral college with the vote from We The People.

16 - CAMPAIGN FINANCE LAW REFORM

Overturn Citizens United. We must remove all corporate and billionaire money from politics as it wields too much power to steer policy away from assisting all the American people.  The people must control the vote.  Once leaving office there should be a time limit before becoming a lobbyist.

17 - REDISTRICT

Every district across this country needs to be drawn correctly so that the vote adequately represents the people.  We must end gerrymandering and its use to manipulate districts in any state.

18 - DELIVER THE VOTING RIGHTS ADVANCEMENT ACT

Every America should have a vote and it should count every time therefore we must deliver the Voter Rights Advancement Act to the People.  Look at cybersecurity as a way of defense for our nation especially for these upcoming elections.

19 - DEMAND NET NEUTRALITY

We need to be more in control of what we search and what is used and sold about us by most of the apps that we use today.  Apps should not be able to mine our data to sell.  We need to have real privacy and demanding net neutrality along with not allowing personal data to be sold are ways to begin to control our identities.
